Drum Castle is located on the East coast of Scotland in the Aberdeenshire countryside. Robert the Bruce gave William de Irwin the castle/tower house and grounds. The castle was handed down through the generations, with many of the new owners adding to the building. The mansion house was added to the tower (castle) during the Jacobean era. In the 1800s, the lower hall was converted into a library which now contains over 4000 books. Overall, Drum Castle is known to be one of Scotland’s oldest tower houses. Drum Castle stayed within the Irvine family until 1975 when it was handed over to the Scottish Trust.
