Tredegar Garden

Tredegar House is located 13 miles east of Cardiff. The iconic red brick house was built in the 1670s by Sir William Morgan. The house was passed through the family for many generations, with one owner, Sir Charles Morgan, who saw the front of the Chartist movement within his home. The Chartist movement was a campaign to increase the political power of the working class in the late 1700s. However, in 1946 the family was sold privately by the family due to a financial burden created by the extravagant parties they had and was sold to make an all-girls Catholic school. In 1970 Newport Council bought the house and transformed the home and garden into a museum. It was then leased to the National Trust in 2012, who now maintains and cares for the house, artwork, and gardens.
