Blenheim Palace

4/04/2023

Blenheim Palace is located one mile from the small village of Woodstock, Oxfordshire and was built in 1724 as a national gift to John Churchill for his duty during the battle of Blenheim in Germany during the War of Spanish Succession by Queen Anne. In the early 18th century Queen Anne also commissioned garden designer Henry Wise to design the gardens in a similar style to those found at the Palace of Versailles. Very little of Henry Wise’s garden remains due to changing tastes over the centuries. Much later, the gardens were redesigned by Capability Brown in his style of informal gardens and woodland style. However, Blenheim is most famous for being the home of Sir Winston Churchill. Born in 1874, Churchill would become the UK’s Prime Minister during the Second World War. Now, Blenheim Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and enjoyed by many.
